Here I make the best DIY Laundry Detergent recipe using Dollar Tree products. This is the cheapest and best smelling Laundry Detergent you’ll ever make on your own. I honestly think this will last longer than a year and cost under $20! Yes wash clothes for 1 year for $20 bucks!!
Recipe I followed: http://howdoesshe.com/cheaper-and-better-diy-laundry-detergent/
What you will need:
1 (4 lb 12 oz) Box of Borax
1 (3 lb 7 oz) Box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
2- 32oz Awesome Orange OxyClean or Similar product found at Dollar Tree
2 (14.1 oz) Bars of Zote Soap– I used the pink bars for a stronger scent but the white bars work too
1 (4 lb) Box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda
4 bottles Dollar Tree Fabric Crystals
Directions for DIY LAUNDRY DETERGENT
1. Grate zote soap with cheese grater or food processor.
2. Mix all ingredients together in a large bucket.
3. Use 2 -4 Tablespoons per laundry load.

That’s pretty smart, folding in the laundry room never thought about that sometimes I end up sleeping on my clean clothes
My sister turned me onto home made laundry soap… and I will never buy one again!!
I just Liked this video and added it to my Favorites! I’m not allowed to use powdered detergent in the laundry room, but I just _love_ the pink and blue sparkles! I figure if I ever get my own place or move to an apartment complex that _does_ allow powdered detergent, I’ll be able to come back to this!
Oh, and I”m thinking the next time you have to make the stuff, why not just get yourself a 5 gallon bucket so you can just shake it all up or at least roll it around (if it’s too heavy)? Then you’ll have it all in 1 place, other than maybe 1 or 2 smaller containers for convenience. That’s what _I’d_ do.
Looks awesome…
I make mine in one of those cereal storage containers. I just close it up and shake it until it’s mixed.
Hi love your videos! You are one of my TOP on youtube! You may already have answered this question nut I am hoping you, or someone else, will answer again for me. You just grated your Zote soap…no dissolving on stove like some other videos? SO MUCH BETTER!!!! THANK YOU
I want to make this so bad. How well does it do on black clothes? Does it leave any white residue because 98% of my clothes are black
Use a large double thick garbage back to mix it, just flip or rotate the bag to mix it. Use a double bag in case a bag breaks, cut off a small corner to pour it in your glass container. Easy.
OMG, I’m gonna have to try this I actually spent so much money on laundry detergents every month
I found mixing each layer as you go easy for me personally. Just thought I’d share to anyone that is considering doing this♡
I put the Downy Unstoppables in my laundry powder, it also gives a nice fragrance
You know what i was thinking is that since most of the diy recipes call for baking soda. Well arm & hammer sells the carpet powder cleaner that is extremely scented and its a great smell (the pet one already has oxiclean). I wonder how that would work. Its just scented baking soda ( 18 oz). At the dollar tree too. Plus with their LA’s awesome base cleaner (orange or regular), seems great, which also already has washing soda. And of course zote. Hmm. I like trying new diy recipes. And since i cant find the generic fresh scent fabric softener beads, i need my smell fix. Im going to have to try this out. Maybe buy a bag of foca and use it to boost that. Also just reead on the egw that LA’s awesome cleaner received an A for its cleaning ingredients ( washing soda, peroxide) over oxi clean ( a-d depending on which product). Win win.
Girrrrl! You are flawless!! And I fell in love with you quickly!!
Just an fyi this laundry detergent is not vegan. 🙁 super sad I know. The zote bar has sodium tallowate which is beef tallow. Any alternatives to the zote bar? I know fels naptha also has the same ingrediants as zote. 🙁 Sick of spending a lot of money on laundry detergent!
Don’t touch borax with your bare hands you could get 2nd and 3rd degree burns
I made the homemade detergent as well. I found that I also need to add liquid. Next time I would do layers of the detergent. That helped me make sure everything was mixed well. And zote also has the flakes already shredded at Walmart
Can I use this laundry detergent in my He wash machine? Because I love it
Great video. I have made this before and it is so much easier to mix if you pour it into clean garbage bag and tie it up and mix it that way. Less powder flying around your house and easy to store the remaining in the same bag.
Also I found out of you can find.a.lingerine bag and put the dirty socks in the bag you can wash and dry and them, no more lost.socks!!!!!
Hey Friends HERE IS THE COST BREAK DOWN! I also added a link to a Liquid HE washer safe version
Zote Soap x2 (1.00 each at local dollar store)
Borax ($3.97 Walmart)
Arm&Hammer Washing Soda ($3.97 Walmart)
Baking Soda 4lb box ($2.24 Walmart)
Awesome Oxy Clean x2 (1.00 Dollar Tree)
Fabric Crystals x4 ($1.00 Dollar Tree)
Total $18.18 Im not sure how that breaks down into per load but I know its .05(half a penny) per day for 1 year but Im not sure how to calculate further.
Here’s a link to a HE washer safe Liquid version. Of course I haven’t tried it but it looks good!

The color is really cute
So how much per load is this cost? I noticed you used a lot of different products.
My God thanks to all you ladies with different videos Im sure with my newborn ill save so much money while his dad and I are creating a home together on a budget!
Yikes dont add baking soda to homemade laundry soap. Dilutes the cleaning power of the washing soda
